March 18, 2025:
A new firewood cutting opportunity is now available in South Mason County, approximately 7 miles northeast of Schafer State Park, off Plug Mill Rd. Only Motorized Recreation Access Permit holders are authorized to cut firewood, free of charge, for personal use (5 cords or less). Please email us at recreation@greendiamond.com with any questions.
Directions: From Schafer State Park, take the Satsop Cloquallum Rd to Plug Mill Rd. Stay on Plug Mill Rd for approximately 1.5 miles to the Recreation Access gate on the left. This is the 5700 Rd. Enter the gate with your recreation access key and follow the 5700 Rd approximately half a mile to the 5750. Take the 5750 Rd approximately 2.5 miles to the 5000 Rd. Turn left onto the 5000 Rd for almost 2 miles to the 5084 Rd. You will see the clear cut ahead. (See this map for details).

A new firewood cutting opportunity is now available in Mason County in the area of Eells Hill and California Rd, NE of Shelton. Only Motorized Recreation Access Permit holders are authorized to cut firewood, free of charge, for personal use (5 cords or less). Please email us at recreation@greendiamond.com with any questions.
Directions: From Shelton, take US Highway 101 north to SR 102 (Dayton Airport Rd). Stay on SR 102 to Eells Hill Rd. Follow Eells Hill Rd approximately 5 ¼ miles to the California Rd Recreation Access gate on the west side of the roadway. Enter the gate with your recreation access key and follow California Rd approximately 1 1/3 miles to the clear cut. (See this map for details).
November 8, 2024:
A portion of the Brooklyn unit southwest of Oakville in Grays Harbor is now available for firewood cutting. This Green Diamond Recreation Permit area is located approximately 5 miles southwest of Oakville off the Oakville Brooklyn Rd. Only Motorized Recreation Access Permit holders are authorized to cut firewood, free of charge, for personal use (5 cords or less). Please email us at recreation@greendiamond.com with any questions.
Directions: From Oakville, take State St to South Bank Rd. Travel south on South Bank Rd that turns to Garrard Creek Rd. Stay on Garrard Creek Rd for approximately 2 ¼ miles. Stay to the right to stay on Oakville Brooklyn Rd, approximately 2 miles to the recreation gate at the 9300 road. Stay on the 9300 road for approximately 1 mile. At the “Y”, stay to the left to enter the top portion of the unit. This is the start of the cutting area. (See this map for details).
January 2, 2025:
The 2025-26 Recreation Permits are now on sale for all 2024-25 motorized permit holders. As many past permit holders know, this is the best time to reserve your access to over 120,000 acres. Quantities are limited. The link for the 2025-26 permits is on the primary Green Diamond NW Permits page.
On May 6, 2025, permit sales will be open to new and existing motorized permit holders until they are sold out. Please email us at recreation@greendiamond.com with any questions.
